Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth aged 15-24, with Indigenous youth disproportionately affected.
Prevalence:
1.2 million children and youth in Canada are affected by mental illness, but less than 20% receive appropriate treatment.
Early Onset:
70% of mental health issues begin during childhood or adolescence.
Access to Care:
75% of children with mental health disorders do not receive specialized treatment, and wait times for therapy often exceed six months to a year.
Gender Differences:
Boys are more likely to die by suicide, while girls attempt suicide more often.
